HELPFUL INFORMATION:
ADVENTURE PASS REQUIRED:   You'll need a valid US Parks Department Adventure Pass to enter the Los Padres National Forest. You can purchase them at Big 5 Sporting Goods, Sports Chalet, etc. The cost is less than $10 for a day. Monthly and annual passes are also available.
PARKING:   Park on the edge of the parking lot, close to the entrance. This will allow you to leave without distubing those observers who are going to stay all night.
RESTROOMS:   The primitive restrooms are 500 yards off the parking lot, in a camping area. They're difficult to find. Bring your own toilet paper.
WEATHER:   Before starting out be sure and check the sky conditions. If the sky is overcast or the forecast indicates rain the party will most likely be cancelled. However, a few scattered clouds with clear sky between is fine -- come on up.
DRESS WARM:   Don't forget plenty of warm clothing -- a WARM JACKET, CAP and GLOVES at a minimum and consider bringing long underwear. The temperatures drop to the 40's on summer nights -- even in August.
SNACKS:   Bring plenty of snaks and hot liquids to drink during the evening. There are no fires allowed on the stargazing site, so bring picnic supplies that are self-contained. Also remember to bring water, sunglasses and sunscreen.
AVOID BRIGHT LIGHTS:   Bring a red-filtered flashlight for use at night. A regular flashlight with red film taped over it will work.
OTHER:   Bring binoculars -- they will enhance your stargzing experience tremendously. Don't forget a folding chair to sit on and maybe a folding table.
