VCAS STAR PARTY
LOCATION: Moorpark Observatory - Moorpark College
Date & Time: 8pm to Midnight
(Note: The event will be cancelled if overcast)
COME LEARN ABOUT AND OBSERVE THE NIGHT SKY:
Moorpark Astronomy Professor Hal Jandorf will give an introduction to the night sky, pointing out stars and constellations for beginners.
The Celestron 14 inch telescope (in the dome) will be available for observing with an assigned operator. (The Observatory will be closed at 11:30 PM.)
HELPFUL HINTS AND RULES:
Members may arrive at sunset to set up and observe.
Members can park close to the observatory to unload their equipment.
Electric power (110 VAC) is available, but limited to two receptacles on the observatory wall.
End time:. The Star Party will end at MIDNIGHT.
The observatory will be closed at 11:30pm.
Please be courteous with your headlights and back-up lights when arriving or leaving.
Please use RED Flashlights when observing. (Red tape will be available at the observatory).
Bring your own refreshments but please take your trash wiht you when you leave.
NO ALCOHOL, NO FIREARMS, ETC.
The observatory grounds are not for camping or tenting. You can bring your favorite chair and blankets to enjoy the dark sky!
Children under 12 must be closely supervised.
RESTROOMS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT THE OBSERVATORY. There is a restroom at the Shell Gas Station 1/4 mile from the observatory.
The star party will be cancelled if the sky is overcast.
DIRECTIONS:
From Simi Valley and the San Fernando Valley/Los Angeles area: Take the 118 Freeway west to the first exit in Moorpark, Collins Drive. Turn right onto Collins. Turn right at the traffic light onto Campus Road and proceed up the hill to Parking Lot D.:
From Thousand Oaks: Take the 23/118 Freeway to the Collins Drive exit in Moorpark. Turn left onto Collins. Stay on Collins until the second traffic light, Campus Road. Turn right onto Campus Road and proceed up the hill to Parking Lot D.
From Western Ventura County Go South on the 101 Freeway. Exit onto the 23/118 Freeway going North. Take the 118 Freeway to the Collins Drive exit in Moorpark. Turn left onto Collins. Stay on Collins until the second traffic light, Campus Road. Turn right onto Campus Road and proceed up the hill to Parking Lot D.
